Singapore Youth Stuck on Video Games

Singapore Youth Stuck on Video Games
Youths play video games such as Maple Story & War Craft at least 27 hours a week
Comparison with statistics from USA
American youths spend just 13 hours a week playing
8.5% of American youths show signs of "pathological gaming"
Hurts academic performances & relationships
Youths who are pathological gamers play games to get away from their real life problems such as social problems
Pathological gamers also tend to be male
Pathological gaming can cause health problems such as back problems
Kids play because games are fun and rewarding
Haha! I wonder whether 10 hours of dota is considered pathological gaming! hahaha x)
Loanshark. (:

Play of the Day
Saturday, October 10, 2009 12:00 AM
Today's outstanding Play of the Day belongs to Koh Yu Han, with an 'ultra kill' killing spree, which was witnessed for the first time in the history of our dota careers.
An ultra kill is a rare type of kill, because it requires 4 consecutive kills within a specified time and is only possible in a 4 v 4 or 5 v 5 match, where everyone starts with a pathetic amount of 800 gold.
As such, Yu Han truly deserves the 09s72 Play of the Day title.
I am sure we have truly enjoyed ourselves today and have improved tremendously, and we will continue to keep this dota culture flowing in our veins everlastingly.
Feel free to post screenshots of what you think deserves the Play of the Day title and stand a chance to gain some respect!
Also, feel free to notify each other if you want to garena, through this class blog, which is a form of new media! Just post posts or write some stuff at the side or mass sms woohoo!

GUESS WHAT!?!?!?!
Sunday, October 4, 2009 7:22 PM
it's the durian season!!! and they set up a temporary durian stall below the bukit timah market which sells durians that taste quite excellent but cheap (i bought 3 boxes and finished it in 10 minutes)!!! woooooooooooooo~ what does that mean? it means that we can have some exotic D-U-R-I-A-N feast after L-A-N (along with dinner cos we probably skipped lunch)
meanwhile, check out some durian guides, ask your parents how to tell good durians from bad ones but don't forget to study!!!
PROMOS QUESTION LEAKAGE!!
Friday, October 2, 2009 11:13 PM
Hey pretty girls and handsome boys, I bet the title grabbed your attention. Please take a few minutes to read this post till the end. It’s touching and it contains inspirational and motivating words from our teachers.
PROMOS IS ROUND THE CORNER!
Knowing that this is a crucial period where students face stress, uncertainty and worries, I have collated some encouragement messages from our beloved subject tutors and civic tutor. I hope these messages will be able to motivate us and spur us on!!
Captain Loy (being an avid Chemist):
Dear S72s, 尽全力努力争取像话的成绩!加油了!
(For those who are unable to understand this Chinese message, especially true for those CLL students, the translation is as follow: Do your best and fight for “not-too-ugly” marks! Add oil!) In order to do well, reactant molecules must: (1) encourage one another, (2) have a never-give-up-attitude, (3) get sufficient rest the night before each exam, so that they have sufficient energy & a clear mind to overcome any barrier at the time of the exam. Do your best!
Ms Tsang:
Dear 09S72,
All the best for your studying and exams. Work hard, get enough sleep and ace the promos!
Cheers,
Miss Tsang
Mr Denson Lo:
Students in 09S72 are brilliant. (Premise)
Those who have not been doing well in their GP have not reached their full potential. (Premise)
Those who have not reached their full potential will have an epiphany before their GP paper. (Premise)
09S72 will ace their promotional exams. (Conclusion)
Although the argument above contains a glaring fallacy (fallacy of presumption), I still hold the hope that all of you will become the best you can be, and somehow, was inspired one way or another by GP. Remember, learning is not about the end result, but the journey, of the laughter and noise all created in class, the topics debated and issues explored, the knowledge you have acquired that have shaped you as a student in Hwa Chong. It has been a hell of a year (and a ride) with you guys, and at the end of the day, it was my absolute pleasure to have the honour of teaching your class.
All the best for the upcoming promotional exams!
Mr. Lo
PS: Even an encouragement message can be so GP-ish! Sweet!!
Mrs Eileen Tan (Our beloved PW teacher):
Specially for 09S72,
Here’s ALL my Best Wishes and lots and lots of luck for you!! Jia You!! You can do it!!
From your favourite, one and only, PW teacher :)
Mrs Eileen Tan [The BEST Econs Teacher (IMO lah ...) VERTICAL SUPPLY CURVE]:
Dedicated specially to all ECONs students of 09S72:
It has been great teaching you lot. There are many interesting characters in your class and you are a nice bunch to any Econs teacher (dun tell the rest of the tutors cos they will get jealous that I have you--:p)
Well, it has been quite a journey and I hope you enjoy Econs lessons plus the older and slightly less interesting companion. I hope you will outperform yourself in promos as compared to the last block test. So stay focused and all the best! See you after promos.
Cheers
Mrs Eileen Tan
Mr Ken Yeow (he sneakily left a message on the tagboard. MR YEOW ARE YOU GONNA SING AFTER PROMOS?):
09S72 - All ze best for your Promos! (",)
PS: Short and sweet, he isn’t short but he’s definitely sweet!!
Likewise, the other subject tutors who aren’t in this post also send their best wishes to the class!!! :D:D:D:D:D
Newton discovered gravity when the apple dropped onto his head!
I discovered friendship, fun and perseverance (inside joke: cost 1750gold) when I entered 09S72!
